More Sporting

If you know Ollie then there's no way you don't know about his love affair.  His first love.  Golf.  Once a year for the last 5 or 6 years our town has hosted a major PGA event.  It's a showdown of the world's best golfers and has in some circles been dubbed the "6th major".  I've been a few times and I would like to say, yes, it's pretty major!  There are not too many things better than a beautiful day spent in a pristine park-like setting watching guys make golf look easy.  I know, I'm easily impressed because I struggle to make contact with a ball at full swing, but still - "these guys are good".

So here's a few highlights from the practice round at Quail Hollow:
As soon as we walked into the main part of the course we were along #4.  And who was there but the Master's Champion, Philly Mick.

We heard later on that he pulled out of the round early for a tummy ache or something like that.  Good thing we caught him when we did.

Then we ambled over to the putting green.  I was minding my own business just looking around when Ollie leaned in and whispered, "there's your boy."  This is who I saw.
So he's definitely not MY boy.  But regardless of the kind of husband & father he is - he's still a pretty amazing athlete.

He seemed to be in a pretty good mood chatting up Furyk & Fluff.

Not sure if he's still feeling that way.  As of this morning he was 9 off the lead.  That's a lot of ground to make up.  Even if you're Tiger.

This guy gets my vote as being one of the nicest guys on tour.  Stewart Cink.  He stood there forever signing autographs (this was mid practice round).  He's on twitter too - follow him.  Funny guy and always seems to be up to good things.

Ok, so if you aren't from here and don't follow golf all that closely, you might not know who this is.  It's Johnson Wagoner.  He lives here and is a quiet hometown hero.  I hope he does well.

As we moseyed along we caught up with this guy.  Look familiar.  Yeah, MJ.  It was Pro-Am day and he was paired with Freddy Couples (love him) and local business guru Johnny Harris.

Michael was having a rough day.  That shot landed back in the bunker.  And as you can tell from the picture above this one, he was hitting from the pine straw.  Probably not his best day on the course.

There he is.  Spiderman.  He's my pick to win this week.  Go Camillo!  (Well, him or Kenny Perry - love him too.)

Ollie says this guy is the next BIG THING.  His name is Ricky Fowler.  He and his caddy looked like 12 year old Junior golfers to me.  I'm getting old.  I know it.

So here we are on 18.  We can't wait to bring the little ones.  They just have to learn how to be very quiet.  On second thought, it may be a while.  They take after their daddy when it comes to being quiet.

Look how happy.
